The Lubbock Police Department on Wednesday confirmed two people were arrested in connection with the July 5 shooting at a gas station that led to an officer-involved shooting that killed Terrence Hastings Jr., 17.
LPD said on Tuesday, 23-year-old Reginald Washington was arrested by U.S. Marshals in the 5900 block of 16th Street. He was charged with deadly conduct.
EverythingLubbock.com previously reported Marquis Diaz, 24, was arrested on September 5. He was charged with Deadly Conduct by Discharging a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Court documents said witnesses and video footage depicted one of the suspects as Marquis Diaz, who was shooting from east of the drive-through area.
On July 5 just before 3:30 a.m., officers were called to the 2900 block of Parkway Drive for a report of a fight involving up to 100 people. LPD said an officer saw Hastings shooting and started chasing him. The officer told Hastings to drop his gun, but LPD said Hastings leveled his weapon at others on scene. At this point the officer shot Hastings, who continued to crawl for his weapon, which prompted the officer to shoot again. LPD said Hastings was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is asking for the public’s help in identifying all of the individuals involved in the shooting, as it continues to investigate every aspect of this case,” LPD said. “Individuals with information about this case can call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000. Callers can remain anonymous.”
