The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating a pursuit that occurred in northwest Lubbock on Sunday, which resulted in the arrest of two individuals aged 18 and 19.

According to a press release, LPD was called about a collision in the 5400 block of 4th Street around 10:55 p.m. While officers responded to the scene, a motorcyclist nearby nearly hit a police vehicle. Soon after, a passenger car driven by Selena Lucero, 18, hit the motorcycle.

Lucero then drove away, leading officers on a chase that took her through a field and ended near 2nd Drive and Slide Road. There, she ran a stop sign and was hit by a vehicle driven by Anaviah Bailey, 19, who sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Covenant Medical Center.

The three individuals in the backseat of the car driven by Lucero were injured. Two adults sustained moderate injuries, while an 11-month-old suffered serious injuries and was transferred to University Medical Center for treatment. The infant was later cleared and released to Child Protective Services.

Lucero was charged with Intoxication Assault, Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Injury to a Child. The front passenger in the vehicle with Lucero, Sebastian Mejia, 19, was also arrested and charged with evading on foot.
