Sunday night in northwest Lubbock turned into chaos after 18-year-old Selena Lucero allegedly plowed into a motorcyclist and then decided her best move was to floor it. Instead of stopping, she led police on a chase through a field, blew a stop sign, and promptly crashed into another car driven by 19-year-old Anaviah Bailey. Pro tip: if your escape plan includes “drive recklessly into oncoming traffic,” maybe just skip to the part where you get arrested.
The wreck left three passengers in Lucero’s car injured, including an 11-month-old baby who suffered serious injuries and had to be handed over to Child Protective Services. Two other adults were hurt, and Bailey was hospitalized as well. Because nothing says “night out” like ending up in the ER thanks to someone else’s bad decisions.
Lucero was hit with a laundry list of charges, including Intoxication Assault, Evading in a Motor Vehicle, and Injury to a Child. Her passenger, 19-year-old Sebastian Mejia, didn’t exactly cover himself in glory either—he ran from the crash on foot and was promptly arrested.
Lubbock’s new motto might as well be: “Drive sober, or prepare to share a holding cell with your getaway buddy.”
