Just when you think a trip to the movies is safe—popcorn, previews, the faint smell of regret—Lubbock reminds you otherwise. Police arrested 34-year-old Bradley Scott Cotnoir after an incident at a movie theater near 82nd Street and University, where he allegedly decided the men’s restroom was an appropriate place for some unsolicited peeping.
According to court documents, Cotnoir was caught observing another man without consent and later told officers he was simply “curious” about the victim’s genitals. Because nothing screams normal human behavior quite like explaining that to the police. Things reportedly went from awkward to deeply unsettling when Cotnoir made “gratifying noises” while discussing the incident and described himself as feeling “brave.” Brave. In a bathroom. Cool.
When officers attempted to arrest him, Cotnoir resisted, apparently doubling down on the idea that consequences are optional suggestions. He was ultimately booked on charges of voyeurism and resisting arrest and is now sitting in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.
Adding an uncomfortable layer to the story, court records note Cotnoir was previously accused in 2013 of exposing himself to four boys at a local pool, though those charges were later dismissed. Which means this isn’t exactly a shocking plot twist—more like a grim sequel no one asked for.
So the next time someone tells you Lubbock has “nothing going on,” remind them that apparently even going to the bathroom requires situational awareness. Is it too much to ask for one public space where curiosity stays theoretical?
