Because life in the high plains apparently isn’t bleak enough, our neighbors over in Clovis decided to spice up a Monday morning with a casual mass shooting. On March 22, Clovis PD responded to reports of gunfire only to find six people who had been used for target practice near Grand and Calhoun. Among the victims was 21-year-old Lyrasha Haskins, who died from her injuries, and a 17-year-old who was promptly shipped off to a Lubbock hospital to become our problem.
The Major Crimes Unit is currently “investigating,” which is police-speak for asking the public to do their job for them. They’re looking for two local scholars: 18-year-old Enrique Juarez Padilla and 19-year-old Kaleb Josue Moreno Ponce. In a stunning display of investigative detail, police clarified that Kaleb’s hair is actually longer now than it is in his photo—just in case you were planning on letting a teenager with a fresh fade slide but drawing the line at a guy with a slightly shaggier look.
If you happen to know where these two are hiding out, Curry County Crime Stoppers is offering a whopping reward of up to $1,000. That’s right—you can risk your life snitching on two alleged shooters for the approximate price of a month’s rent in a Lubbock apartment that smells like wet dog and broken dreams.
Nothing says “thriving community” like a $1,000 bounty on a homicide suspect, but I guess that’s just the market rate for justice in the 575.
