Because it wouldn’t be a proper Lubbock night without some violence at a “family-friendly” bar, police say a July brawl at Copper Caboose escalated from “people laughing” to “woman grabs a gun.” Marisabel Casas, 29, reportedly fetched her firearm after her boyfriend, 36-year-old Dameon Pakus, decided to turn words into punches. Witnesses say she aimed it at bystanders; she swears she didn’t. Fortunately, video evidence exists—because of course it does.
The situation spiraled further when Pakus later decided to add some cardio to his résumé, leading police on a foot chase through South Lubbock. It ended with the assistance of both a DPS helicopter and a K-9 unit. Yes, you read that right—a helicopter. Over a bar fight. At Copper Caboose.
Both lovebirds were eventually arrested, because romance in Lubbock apparently means sharing a booking photo. Casas’ bond was set at $120,000, while Pakus has already bonded out—surely to continue his streak of great decisions.
Only in Lubbock do you start the night with nachos and end it with a police helicopter.
