John Quincy Adams — yes, really, that’s his name — a 71-year-old anesthesiologist living in Lubbock, was arrested and indicted for sexual assault. Court records say the case stems from a March 2024 incident, when a 21-year-old woman reported blacking out at his house after a night out and waking up to Adams allegedly touching and kissing her without consent.
The victim, who knew Adams through her boyfriend’s family, told police she passed out in the bathroom and later woke up in a bedroom above Adams’s so-called “man cave.” She said she was groggy, hungover, and disoriented when she realized what was happening. The next morning, Adams allegedly grabbed his glasses off the bed, touched her again, and kissed her without consent.
Adams has been licensed as a physician since 1986, with a specialty in anesthesiology. While he no longer appears to be affiliated with a hospital in Lubbock, state records list his home address as his primary practice. As of Friday, he remained in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond while the Texas Medical Board decides what to do with his license.
When most people think of “house call,” they don’t imagine it involves the family’s creepy acquaintance waking up in their bed. And if you’re a doctor nicknamed after a Founding Father, maybe don’t spend your twilight years explaining to the Texas Medical Board why your “man cave” is suddenly a crime scene.
