Apparently, Lubbock wasn’t done with its “officers vs. physics” double feature this week. Fresh off our last story about a high-speed chase that ended with a stolen truck hugging a utility pole, we’ve now got a Texas DPS trooper who decided to join the chaos — unintentionally.

According to DPS, the trooper was speeding off to help catch a felony suspect Tuesday evening when they collided with another vehicle near 50th and Slide. The trooper wound up in the hospital with minor injuries, while the other driver was fine — which, in Lubbock terms, counts as a miracle.

And because the city apparently ordered the “Buy One Wreck, Get One Free” special, another crash happened moments later just down the road at 50th and Chicago. Multiple agencies — DPS, the Sheriff’s Office, and LPD — all scrambled to untangle the mess, proving once again that when it rains wrecks, it pours wrecks.

At this point, the only thing more consistent than Lubbock’s wind is its uncanny ability to turn traffic enforcement into traffic incidents.

If DPS keeps this up, maybe the next “pursuit” should be for better driving lessons.
