Turns out one of Texas’ top prison officials couldn’t escape his own sticky fingers. Michael Miller, 48, Senior Warden at the Wallace Unit, was arrested at the Walmart on 114th and Quaker after allegedly swapping barcodes and ringing up nearly $140 worth of merchandise for just $4.77. His trick? Scanning everything as if it were 53-cent embroidery floss.

Court records say Miller used self-checkout for his DIY five-finger discount before being caught. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice wasted no time expressing its disgust, calling his actions “entirely unacceptable” and confirming they’re cutting ties with him.

Miller, who spent 27 years with the agency and only recently became Senior Warden in April, is no longer in custody. His future, however, looks far less like embroidery floss and more like iron bars.

From running a prison to trying to cheat Walmart—guess Miller just couldn’t resist testing out life on the other side of the scanner.
