Jeremy Maxfield, 41, a former Lubbock High School teacher and track coach, was arrested by U.S. Marshals and charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child plus one count of improper relationship between an educator and a student. Court records say the crimes happened in late 2019 — and yes, on school grounds.

According to the affidavit, Maxfield regularly communicated with the victim, exchanged nude images, and had sexual encounters in his classroom. Lubbock ISD claims they only learned of the abuse in April 2024 when a former student came forward. They placed him on leave, then accepted his resignation in June — but let’s be real, “resigned” is school-district code for “we don’t want the paperwork saying we fired him for being a predator.”

He started at Lubbock High in 2007, meaning he spent nearly two decades in classrooms before this came out. As of Thursday, he’s sitting in jail on $150,000 bond.

“Safety of our students is our highest priority,” the district’s statement reads. Too bad it took 15 years, multiple assaults, and the U.S. Marshals to remind them of it.
