Another ugly chapter for Lubbock ISD: 41-year-old former teacher and track coach Jeremy Maxfield has been formally indicted on a child sexual assault charge. He was first arrested back in August by U.S. Marshals after a former student came forward, and now the grand jury has tacked on a fourth charge to his growing rap sheet.
Court documents say the abuse happened in late 2019, with sexual encounters taking place on school grounds—including his classroom. Investigators also found evidence of nude photo exchanges and “regular sexual communication” with the underage student. Translation: this wasn’t a one-time lapse in judgment, it was a full-blown predatory pattern.
LISD says Maxfield is no longer employed with the district. They claim they moved quickly once allegations surfaced in April 2024, suspending him, reporting him to the state, and accepting his resignation by June. Which is corporate-speak for, “we cut ties as fast as we could once we realized how bad this was going to look.”
From track coach to perp walk in less than five years—Maxfield won’t be winning any medals, unless they start handing out gold for disgrace.
