Eric Harris, 68, a former Lubbock Police Department detective turned “special investigator,” is now getting special accommodations at the Lubbock County Detention Center. Harris was busted in a demand-reduction sting on April 14 after arranging a hotel meetup with what turned out to be an undercover officer. So much for all that investigative training.

Harris retired from LPD back in 2020 but was rehired in 2023 as a civilian investigator—because in Lubbock, apparently, retirement doesn’t stick and background checks are optional. Now he’s facing a felony charge for solicitation of prostitution.

Only in Lubbock does the line between “cop” and “suspect” blur so badly you need an evidence marker just to tell the difference.
