Because nothing says “Lubbock brunch” like dodging a sedan, the Slide Road Denny’s added a new drive-thru option this weekend — right through the dining room. Witnesses say they were waiting to pay when a car came barreling toward them, turning “Moons Over My Hammy” into “Tires Over My Table.”
Employees say the restaurant’s closure is devastating since it’s their main source of income. Which is understandable — hard to refill coffee when there’s a Dodge Caravan parked next to the syrup caddy. Meanwhile, customers jumped in to help the dazed driver, who was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Miraculously, no one else was seriously hurt — proving yet again that Lubbock’s unofficial motto, “We survive weird stuff,” still holds up.
Police haven’t said what caused the crash yet, but let’s be honest — it’s Slide Road. Odds are it was either a medical episode, a drunk driver, or just another day in Lubbock traffic.
At this point, maybe Denny’s should just add “front-end alignment” to the breakfast menu.
