Lubbock’s revolving door of justice spun one more time this week as 49-year-old Trenity Bailey—already a registered sex offender—was sentenced to 40 years in prison after sexually assaulting a child. Court records show the victim texted her mother, “He did it again,” which tells you everything you need to know about both the crime and how long it took the system to stop him.
When deputies came to arrest him, Bailey pulled the classic Lubbock move: refuse to come out and make SWAT do it. Because what’s a local arrest without at least one “standoff” where everyone knows how it’s going to end? Eventually, he surrendered—probably when dinner time rolled around—and was hauled off to face a lifetime of finally being where he always belonged.
He’s now got 40 years to think about his crimes, though he’s already getting 469 days shaved off because the system still loves handing out coupons to monsters. Oh, and he gets to stay on the sex offender registry—because that worked out so well the first time.
How many “do-overs” does a sex offender get in Lubbock before someone decides maybe “registering” isn’t the same thing as “protecting”?
