It’s been three months since the June 5 storm ripped through Lubbock with hail, high winds, and even a tornado, and homeowners are still stuck in construction limbo. In the Cambridge Way subdivision, resident Donna Hamil says her house took a beating—windows blown out, roof damage, the whole package. And she’s hardly alone; nearly every house on her block was hit.

The problem isn’t a lack of effort—it’s too many people needing too much work at once. Contractors are stretched thin, and folks are on endless waitlists. Hamil says neighbors have tried to keep calm, patching windows with plywood and helping each other cover damage until the pros show up.

It’s the classic West Texas routine: Mother Nature smashes your house, then you get a crash course in patience while insurance adjusters, roofers, and window guys play a game of musical chairs.

In Lubbock, the storm may last 15 minutes—but the repairs last until next storm season.
