It’s been three months since the storm on June 5th brought damaging hail, strong winds and a tornado to Lubbock. One homeowner in the Cambridge Way subdivision said she is patiently waiting for contractors to come repair the damage to her home.
Donna Hamil is among many residents in this area who experienced damage to their roofs and windows. She said nearly every home on her block was damaged in some way.
“It was stunning to me…I was hearing about the storm, but to see windows blown out of the back of my house was shocking,” Hamil said.
She said getting repairs has been a slow process but not for a lack of trying.
“Getting contractors out here was not easy…they’re all busy, they all had schedules and were going everywhere all at the same time. It’s been rough on all the neighbors and I’m sure the contractors are glad for the business, but at the same time people get frustrated and it’s just best if you keep your calm and speak kindly,” Hamil said.
She said that instead of being frustrated with the situation and how long the repairs are taking, she and her neighbors took a different approach.
“Our neighbors were out covering windows, grabbing stuff, getting plywood brought in from other places and jumping in and covering each other’s windows. I think everybody understands it’s not just me…it’s not just one area. It’s a pretty good-sized area that got hit and we all just have to be patient,” Hamil said.
