Local GTA Enthusiast Trades 120 MPH Thrills for 15 Years of Federal Boredom

Welcome to Lubbock, where the wind blows at 50 mph and our criminals drive at 120. Jeremiah Daniel Rossette, a 29-year-old who apparently mistook Highway 84 for a closed course in Need for Speed, just entered a federal guilty plea for a January 2025 carjacking that was essentially a one-man parade of bad decisions.

The festivities began when the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office tried to invite Rossette to pull over near County Road 3100. Instead of doing the rational thing, Jeremiah decided to see how fast his black Dodge Charger could go before the deputies disabled it. Pro tip: when your Charger gives up the ghost, maybe don’t immediately carjack a red pickup truck and try to use it as a battering ram against the people holding the guns.

Rossette managed to get himself shot by deputies after attempting to drive his “new” truck toward them—a bold strategy that resulted in a scenic ambulance ride to UMC and a long-term reservation at the Lubbock County Detention Center. He’s now looking at a maximum of 15 years in federal prison, which is arguably the only place in the country with less exciting scenery than the drive to Slaton.

Between the state charges of robbery, evading arrest, and assault, and this new federal cherry on top, Jeremiah is going to have plenty of time to reflect on his career choices. It’s truly heartwarming to see a local boy dream big, even if those dreams mostly involve high-speed felony swaps and taxpayer-funded surgery.

Is 120 mph really worth 15 years of prison food, or is that just the standard Lubbock tax for trying to get anywhere in this town before the lights turn red?
