According to the Lubbock Police Department, a suspension has been issued following an internal investigation over the incident in April, following an LPD K-9 that left two individuals injured in an attack.
EverythingLubbock.com reported that in April, officers initially responded to a call in the 5700 block of 108th Street. During the attack, citizens took action to stop the animal, having to shoot and kill the K-9. The attack led to two people being transported to University Medical Center, one with serious injuries and one with moderate injuries.
LPD stated that following the investigation, it was determined that the individuals injured were on a walk when the K-9 attacked them. The incident was not associated with any law enforcement activity.
The officer involved received an unpaid suspension and was reassigned from the department.
Lubbock Police emphasized the seriousness of this incident and its circumstances, asserting their continued belief in the effectiveness of K-9s as valuable resources for law enforcement.
