Lubbock police released a graphic video of a Nov. 1 hit-and-run on 82nd Street, where 45-year-old bicyclist Billie Koss was struck by a white early-2010s Hyundai Sonata—because of course it was a Hyundai Sonata. Officers arrived around 11:39 p.m. to find Koss lying in the roadway with serious injuries. EMS rushed her to UMC, where she continues to receive treatment.
Investigators say Koss was trying to cross 82nd when the car plowed into her and, in classic Lubbock fashion, immediately sped off instead of stopping to help. LPD posted the footage online with a content warning, which is honestly the most responsible thing in this entire story.
Police are now asking the public to help identify the car, because apparently the driver decided that fleeing the scene of a major crash is better than, say, being a basic human. They’re dangling a reward for anyone with information, which might be the only thing in town that travels faster than a hit-and-run suspect on 82nd Street.
At this point, should Lubbock just install “Render Aid” signs next to the “Speed Limit” ones, or would those be ignored too?
