Because Lubbock can’t go a week without a headline that makes you question reality, a lawsuit now alleges that former Nat Williams Elementary teacher Samantha Reasoner sexually assaulted a 3-year-old boy during nap time. The boy’s mother, under the pseudonym Jane Doe, claims the abuse happened more than once, and her attorneys say other families may have similar stories.

The lawsuit doesn’t just go after Reasoner—it takes aim at Lubbock ISD for allegedly ignoring red flags and keeping her in the classroom. According to the attorneys, administrators were already concerned about safety issues and even tried to move her Pre-K class indoors from a portable building. But instead of preventing disaster, the district allegedly left her in charge of toddlers until the situation exploded into a lawsuit.

LISD insists it acted “swiftly and appropriately” once concerns were raised, noting that Reasoner is no longer employed. Parents, however, say they weren’t told why the teacher was suddenly gone, only that she was terminated. Meanwhile, attorneys claim there are multiple victims and outcries, suggesting this may have been going on for longer than anyone wants to admit.

An investigation is underway involving CPS, LISD Police, Lubbock PD, and the Texas Education Agency. Which, let’s be honest, is basically every acronym you can throw at a scandal when your first line of defense—basic hiring and supervision—already failed.

So, LISD’s idea of “swift action” is waiting until a lawsuit and a press conference to admit something went horribly wrong? Guess we should all just be grateful they didn’t try to sweep this one under the turf at Jones Stadium.
