Gerardo Alejandro Mata, 34, was arrested this week after a child under 12 accused him of indecency with sexual contact. According to court records, the child told a family member what happened, pushed Mata’s hand away when he tried to escalate, and set off a chain of events that ended with him bolting from the house.
A witness reported seeing Mata in the bathroom right after the outcry—with an erection—and hearing his less-than-convincing denial: “Whatever she told you, I didn’t do it.” That’s not exactly Perry Mason-level defense strategy.
Mata tried to make a run for it but was caught shoeless near North Loop 289, proving once again that in Lubbock, criminals think they can just jog their way out of felony charges. He’s now sitting in the county jail on a $150,000 bond.
If you’re accused of molesting a child and your escape plan is “run barefoot down the Loop,” congratulations—you’ve just added “idiot” to “predator” on your résumé.
