Marquis Diaz, 24, has been arrested after police say he opened fire during a July 5th brawl in Northeast Lubbock that ballooned to around 100 people and left five injured. Court records charitably called the 3:22 a.m. chaos an “after spot,” but let’s be real—it was a giant parking lot free-for-all.
Investigators pieced together the mess from store surveillance, body cam, and of course, social media clips. The footage allegedly showed Diaz running, turning, and firing shots near the drive-through area while panic unfolded. Forensics later matched eight shell casings to the firearm seen in his hands.
Diaz was slapped with charges of Deadly Conduct by Discharging a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on $70,000 bond, then promptly released—because what’s a little shootout between 100 people when you’ve got cash for bail?
Only in Lubbock can “going out for the night” turn into a 100-person melee with gunfire, like some kind of low-budget action movie filmed behind a gas station.
