A new charge was added on September 15 to the list of crimes for Isaiah Sanchez, 18, who was arrested back in August and accused of Abandoning/Endangering a Child, theft of a firearm and several drug charges. Now he was also charged with Deadly Discharge of a Firearm.
According to an affidavit obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Tuesday, police were called for a situation back in May of 2024. Officers were called to the 2200 block of 33rd Street in reference to a shots-fired call. Upon the officer’s arrival, they spoke with a witness who said she had heard rapid gunfire from down the street as a Hispanic male was seen running away.
The officer on scene began checking the area for signs of a shooting when a resident reported that her house had been shot during the incident. Police subsequently found several shell casings in the 3100 block of Avenue W. Lubbock police units were able to locate the suspect vehicle and Sanchez in the 2000 block of E 49th Street.
In a separate incident in August 2025, the Lubbock Police Department’s SWAT team executed a search warrant for Sanchez on the charge of Deadly Discharge of a Firearm. They surrounded the residence where Sanchez, along with Azariah Cruz, a seven-month-old baby and two other individuals were present. Inside the home, officers discovered two firearms: one was a stolen FN Herstal, and the other was a fully automatic Glock equipped with a switch. Additionally, police found another Glock, along with multiple magazines and ammunition.
In the restroom, officers discovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana that had been placed in the toilet in an attempt to flush it away. Arrest records indicate that the weight of the marijuana was estimated to be between 4 ounces and 5 pounds. Also found among the items being flushed were a scale and a small bag containing a substance described by officers as “crystal-like.” A field test confirmed that this substance tested positive for methamphetamine.
Officers reported suspicion that the house was used for drug activities. They discovered large quantities of drugs, including marijuana and methamphetamine, which posed serious risks to the baby living there. Additionally, firearms were not stored properly and were left in the closet and under the bed, making them easily accessible to the child. Cruz and Sanchez are the parents of the seven-month-old baby.
Cruz was charged with Abandoning/Endangering a Child back in August and has since posted bond.
Sanchez is now in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a bond totaling $141,503.
