Kassandra Aguayo, 32, pleaded guilty Friday to the 2022 murder of her ex-boyfriend, Ramon Flores, 66, and was sentenced to 45 years in prison. Flores was found dead in his Central Lubbock home on November 11, 2022, after what court records describe as a horrific and calculated killing.

Prosecutors said Aguayo lied about her whereabouts the day Flores died, but evidence and witnesses told a darker story. According to testimony, Aguayo admitted to putting a bag over Flores’ head, stabbing him with one knife until it broke, then grabbing another from the kitchen to finish the job. She even told someone she stayed behind to watch him die.

Flores’ daughter delivered a devastating victim impact statement, calling her father “the heart of the family” and describing the loss as a “lifetime sentence of pain.” She urged that Aguayo serve her full sentence, saying no amount of time behind bars could undo the trauma inflicted.

Forty-five years is a long time, but when you stab someone twice and admit you waited around to make sure they died, “long time” feels like the bare minimum.
