Lubbock’s Most Productive Small Business Owner Just Got a 30-Year Sabbatical

While the rest of us are struggling to find a decent job in this town that doesn’t involve wearing a name tag or begging for tenure at Tech, Jeremiah “Chris” Arguijo was out here living the American Dream. According to federal prosecutors, Chris wasn’t just “dabbling” in the local economy; he was moving a staggering 1,200 pounds of methamphetamine a year. That’s 100 pounds a month. To put that in perspective, that’s more consistent output than the construction crews on Loop 289.

Our local overachiever was finally grounded by Judge James Wesley Hendrix, who handed him a 30-year sentence in federal prison. The feds caught up with him in July 2025 after raiding several of his “satellite offices” around town. True to the Lubbock spirit of “do it yourself,” Arguijo tried to make a break for it—first in a car, then on foot—because nothing says “guilty as sin” like a high-speed cardio session when the DEA knocks on your door.

It took a literal alphabet soup of agencies—the DEA, ATF, HSI, LPD, LCSO, and DPS—to shut down this one-man logistical powerhouse. Apparently, when you’re responsible for more white powder than a Buddy Holly Hall bathroom on opening night, the government starts taking an interest in your business model.

Arguijo’s five “employees” also pleaded guilty, proving once and for all that corporate loyalty is dead. One of them already got nearly a decade behind bars, while the others are waiting to find out exactly how much of their prime years they’ll be spending in a jumpsuit that isn’t Red Raider Red.

Since he was moving 100 pounds a month, do you think he at least qualified for a “Small Business of the Year” plaque from the Chamber of Commerce, or does that only apply if your poison is overpriced boutique coffee?
