David Valdez Jr., 32, pleaded guilty on Thursday morning to Aggravated Robbery and was sentenced to 25 years in custody with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

All other charges were dismissed. Valdez was previously sentenced to eight years in federal prison. This sentence will run concurrently.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported Valdez was arrested in a SWAT operation on August 15, 2024.

On August 11, 2024, Valdez and suspects not named in court documents robbed a smoke shop in the 900 block of Slide Road. Court documents stated security video showed Valdez holding two employees at gunpoint in the store. The video showed employees put several tobacco products, Delta 9 THC products and cash into a bag. He then left in a vehicle waiting outside.

Court records said days before, Valdez was also accused of robbing a family member’s home. That charge was among those dismissed.

Valdez received 400 days of jail credit for time already spent behind bars.
