James Lucas Johnson, 38, really made his six-minute police chase count. Back in May, he led deputies on a brief joyride through Lubbock before being caught near Peach Avenue and East 3rd Street. Now, he’s managed to level up to federal charges.
Court documents say Johnson has been indicted for possession with intent to distribute meth, being a felon in possession of firearms, and—because Lubbock never does things halfway—possessing guns while trafficking drugs. Authorities also tied him to distributing five grams or more of meth, because apparently the neighborhood needed “party favors.”
He’s currently cooling off in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a bond totaling $227,503, which sounds like an oddly specific price tag for someone who couldn’t even pull off a traffic stop escape.
Six minutes of running, a lifetime of charges—talk about a terrible return on investment.
