Another peaceful morning in Northeast Lubbock turned into an episode of Cops: Permian Basin Edition when Jeffrey Porter, 38, allegedly shot Christopher Manahan, 41, in the head after a dispute at a house on Idalou Road. Rather than waiting for an ambulance, Manahan—proving Lubbock men are built different—got into his truck and drove himself bleeding from the skull to a relative’s house on North Zenith Avenue, where someone finally called 911.

Police later found Porter in Midland, where he was arrested without incident by the Midland Texas Anti-Gang Center—because nothing says “normal Tuesday” like needing an anti-gang task force to catch one guy who couldn’t handle an argument.

Porter’s now cooling off in the Midland County Jail facing charges for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Meanwhile, the Major Crimes Unit is still investigating, which is Lubbock-speak for “we’ll get back to you when the paperwork clears.”

Only in West Texas can you get shot in the head, drive yourself to safety, and still make it to Covenant before the suspect hits Midland.
