Leandro Rodriguez Jr. has pleaded guilty to federal charges of Enticement of a Minor after being caught in a case that started when a 10-year-old’s guardian found explicit messages on her phone. Federal documents detail that Rodriguez—who was living with the victim’s family member—used text messages to arrange meetings, exchange sexual messages, and solicit photos. He even admitted to knowing the child was under 14.
The investigation uncovered explicit images and videos on both his and the victim’s phones. Rodriguez was arrested in March, and now faces a possible life sentence and a hefty fine. He’s also agreed to be listed on the Sex Offender Registry—because, you know, that’ll fix everything.
In a town where the phrase “small-town values” gets printed on billboards, yet headlines like this show up every other week, you start to wonder if the slogan should come with an asterisk. Maybe under it, in tiny print: “Some restrictions (and morals) may apply.”
At this point, it’s hard to tell what’s more predictable—Lubbock’s wind or another horrifying story of “family” gone wrong.
