Police say 30-year-old Jesse Tello was shot dead early Monday after “unlawfully” entering a home on Baylor Street around 2 a.m. Officers found him with a gunshot wound, and he later died at University Medical Center.
According to investigators, someone inside the house found Tello inside and promptly opened fire. The details of what led up to the shooting—and who exactly pulled the trigger—are still “under investigation,” which is cop-speak for don’t expect answers anytime soon.
So far, police aren’t releasing any more details, other than stressing that Tello wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is handling the case, though in Texas, “he broke in and got shot” is about as open-and-shut as it gets.
In Lubbock, the real neighborhood watch isn’t a sign in the yard—it’s a loaded gun by the nightstand.
