Police have identified a 30-year-old man who died after he was shot while investigators say he was unlawfully in someone else’s home early Monday in north Lubbock.

The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting that was reported about 2:01 a.m. Monday at a home in the 2500 block of Baylor Street, according to a statement from police.

Upon arrival, officers located 30-year-old Jesse Tello with a gunshot wound.

Tello suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Through the initial course of the investigation, it appears, a person inside the residence located Tello inside the home before shooting him. Tello had unlawfully entered the home,” reads the statement from police.

Other information about the person who shot Tello and the circumstances leading to the shooting were not immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
