Another day, another Lubbock traffic stop that turned into a crash scene. Around 9:43 p.m. Monday night, police tried to pull over a driver near 37th and Slide—but because this is Lubbock, the driver took that as an invitation to test both their suspension and the city’s emergency response time.
The chase didn’t last long—Slide Road had other plans. The driver managed to hit not one, but two of Lubbock’s finest stationary objects: a utility pole and a tree near 46th. The impact sent the driver to the hospital for “moderate injuries,” and then straight to the Lubbock County Detention Center for what we can only assume was a less thrilling ride.
Slide Road was shut down between 37th and 46th, LP&L scrambled to fix power outages, and everyone in southwest Lubbock got to practice their favorite pastime—finding a new detour that also isn’t under construction.
At this point, maybe LPD should just install guardrails shaped like jail bars and save everyone the trouble.
