In the latest installment of “Why Are We Like This?”, 28-year-old Juan Lara III was arrested after allegedly shooting at two people outside a Slide Road bar. According to police, the victims were trying to leave like normal human beings who don’t want to get shot, but Lara reportedly decided the best way to end a verbal argument was to open fire as they were getting into their car. Because nothing says “I win this argument” like a bullet through someone’s windshield.
The victims drove off, only to immediately get pulled over—because of course they did—and the officer noticed a fresh bullet hole decorating the glass. That’s when the story goes from bad to Lubbock: while police searched for Lara, he started sending threatening messages to one of the victims promising to “shoot at/kill her,” as if the first attempt didn’t quite get the point across.
Officers soon spotted a vehicle matching his, attempted another traffic stop, and Lara responded with a chase so slow the affidavit calls it a “low-speed collision.” Nothing like trying to escape the law in a way that feels less Fast & Furious and more Rascals on Power Wheels.
Lara was finally booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $110,000 bond, presumably shocked to learn that Slide Road beefs don’t actually come with unlimited do-overs.
Is it really a night out in Lubbock if it doesn’t end with gunfire, a chase, and someone texting death threats like an angsty teenager?
