In a move no one asked for but many will definitely notice, Taco Villa has quietly stopped handing out pennies on cash transactions. Instead, the chain now adds a mysterious new line to receipts labeled “Rounding.” Translation: they’re rounding your total up—or down, if you’re lucky—but mostly up, because capitalism loves an extra cent or two per taco.

Apparently, Lubbock’s favorite fast-food time capsule decided the future is cashless—or at least penny-less. The decision hasn’t been announced publicly, of course. Instead, customers are finding out the fun way: by staring at receipts and realizing their change doesn’t add up.

Sure, it’s only a cent or two here and there. But multiply that by every drive-thru order from every Tech student craving a Taco Burger, and suddenly Taco Villa’s “rounding error” looks like a clever new profit center.

At this rate, will Taco Villa start rounding the meat portions next?
