Texas Tech confirmed that Camryn Booker, 18, is “no longer enrolled” after a viral incident at a campus memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk. In a video making the rounds online, Booker can be heard yelling, “F** your homie dead, he got shot in the head.”* Because nothing says free speech like heckling a memorial service.
Booker was arrested that same day for simple assault near the Student Union “Free Speech Area” and hauled off to the Lubbock County Jail. Tech quickly issued a statement condemning behavior that “denigrates victims of violence” and insisting such antics “have no place on our campus.” Translation: don’t embarrass us on Twitter.
Naturally, Texas politicians couldn’t resist weighing in. Governor Greg Abbott thanked Texas Tech for the response, while Board of Regents President Cody Campbell tweeted a pep-rally-worthy defense of “Tech values” with a Strive for Honor Evermore! flourish. Because nothing soothes a PR headache like school spirit hashtags.
Apparently at Texas Tech, “Guns Up” is fine—but “F*** your homie” will get you kicked out faster than you can say Wreck ‘Em.
