Incoming Texas Tech University System Chancellor Brandon Creighton sat down with KCBD to assure everyone that even though he’s never set foot in a Tech classroom as a student, he’s definitely been spiritually Red Raider–adjacent for, like, years. Creighton, a long-time state senator and architect of several “common sense” higher-ed overhauls (translation: conservative policy bulldozers wrapped in folksy rhetoric), insists he’s not here to politicize anything—he’s just here to oversee and enforce the laws he personally wrote. Totally normal CEO onboarding.
He brushed off criticism about having “no ties” to Tech by reminding everyone he’s been helping the university from afar, sort of like a long-distance boyfriend who keeps saying he’ll visit but never quite does. As for not being an educator? No problem—apparently what universities really need are fewer academic nerds and more budget-writing politicians with strong feelings about DEI.
Creighton also promised he’ll embrace “diverse viewpoints,” which is always what officials say right before explaining why all the opposing ones are wrong. He’s excited to meet with students, faculty, business leaders, and anyone else willing to listen to his monologues about “no ceilings” and “common sense corrections.”
And don’t worry, Tech fans: he made sure to tell everyone he’s fully on board with rooting for the Red Raiders on Saturdays. After all, nothing says “I understand campus life” like name-dropping the horse, the tunnel, and Patrick Mahomes in a single breath.
If this is the start of a new era at Tech, one question remains: is “no ceilings” a vision… or a warning?
