The Executive Inn—Lubbock’s favorite one-stop shop for overdoses, robberies, and SWAT visits—is finally calling it quits. Signs taped up by management announced the “voluntary shutdown” of the motel, citing “recent overdoses, shootings, and robberies” as the last straw. Tenants have until Tuesday morning to pack up their belongings—or what’s left of them.

Police, of course, were quick to clarify that they didn’t tell the motel to close, they just “encouraged compliance” and “sought cooperation.” You know, in the same way your landlord “encourages compliance” by showing up with an eviction notice.

Between May 2024 and August 2025, the Executive Inn racked up 731 police calls—a number so high it should qualify for frequent flyer miles. After months of “discussions” about fixing the problem, management finally decided that the only way to stop the crime was to stop existing.

Nothing says “public safety” like Lubbock’s most notorious crime scene shutting down—voluntarily, of course. Now if only someone could do the same for City Hall.
