Police raided a house in Slaton this week and found what can only be described as a real-life episode of Hoarders: Meth Edition. Inside, officers discovered a child with special needs lying on a pile of trash and extension cords, a starving dog stuck in a feces-filled crate, and two adults snoozing on couches like this was some kind of low-rent Airbnb.

The house had electricity but no water, sinks stuffed with trash, and enough bugs, feces, and food scraps to qualify as a petri dish. Officers also found a meth pipe, because of course they did. Court records say it was basically impossible for anyone inside to practice “even basic hygiene,” which is cop-speak for “this place smells worse than the porta-potties at the Fair after funnel cake day.”

Two women, Megan Nicole Beaudry and Holly Kay Smith, now face child endangerment, animal cruelty, and trespassing charges. Their bonds are set at $8,500 each, which feels like a bargain considering the city of Slaton should probably just burn the house down and start over.

When your home is so bad the police need a hazmat suit just to serve a warrant—maybe, just maybe, parenting and pet ownership aren’t for you.
