We’re #1! (At Being Less Safe Than 88% of America)

Oh, look at us! While you were busy posting pictures of “Hub City” sunsets and pretending the wind doesn’t taste like dirt, Lubbock was out there earning a stellar D- grade in violent crime for 2025. According to the math wizards at Crime Grade, we are officially safer than a staggering 12% of U.S. cities. That means 88% of the country is looking at us and thinking, “At least I don’t live in that localized war zone”.

If you’ve got a spare $467 burning a hole in your pocket, congratulations—that’s your personal share of the $135 million Lubbock spent last year on the “privilege” of having crime. Between court costs and lost wages, being a victim is apparently a luxury hobby we’ve all collectively decided to fund. Murder alone carried a $73.6 million price tag, which is a hell of a way to stimulate the local economy.

Assault remains the local sport of choice, affecting about 4.3 out of every 1,000 residents. But don’t worry, if you’re feeling insecure about our failing grade, just look at our neighbors! Slaton also pulled a D-, and Wolfforth is barely over the “at least we tried” line with a D+. It’s nice to know that if you leave the city limits to escape the chaos, you’re really just choosing a slightly different flavor of dysfunction.

Who knew that “Raider Power” was actually just the sound of someone’s catalytic converter being sawed off in a Southwest Lubbock parking lot?
