Lamb County: The Ultimate Hiding Spot for Lubbock’s Most Pathetic Criminals

Meet 37-year-old Pedro Ortiz, a man who apparently thought he formulated the perfect criminal master plan. Step one: allegedly abuse a child under the age of 14 multiple times throughout 2024. Step two: hit the victim with the classic, cowardly threat to keep quiet. Step three: scurry off to neighboring Lamb County, because nothing screams “impenetrable fortress of safety from the law” quite like Littlefield.

Unfortunately for Pedro, his foolproof strategy of threatening a child into silence completely unraveled. In March 2025, the victim bravely made an outcry to a Lubbock ISD Police Department officer. To make matters worse for Ortiz’s defense strategy, a witness stepped forward to confirm that this gross misconduct happened on multiple different occasions.

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office eventually decided to take a short road trip up north to disrupt Ortiz’s Lamb County retreat. They dragged him right back to the Hub City, where he is now facing three counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact—a second-degree felony that carries some very real prison time.

He is currently residing in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a combined bond of $150,000, leaving us all to wonder: did he seriously think the local sheriff’s department didn’t know how to drive 40 minutes up Highway 84?
