Congrats, Lubbock — we’ve officially landed bronze in the nationwide “most dangerous cities” competition, according to SafeWise. Using FBI data, the study ranked metro areas over 300,000 people, and somehow we managed to out-danger most of the country while still bragging about having fewer murders than other top contenders. Truly an achievement in mediocrity.

One in 25 residents reportedly got hit by property crime last year, which means if you haven’t had your car broken into yet, just wait — it’s coming. Violent crime is also keeping pace, though LPD insists it’s not the city’s fault, it’s the lockdowns. Because apparently, the only thing scarier than COVID around here was being trapped at home with your family.

Corpus Christi also managed to sneak onto the list at number seven, but let’s be real: they’ve got beaches, and we’ve got dust storms. If we’re gonna be dangerous, at least we should be dangerous somewhere pretty.

Who needs tourism slogans when you’ve got FBI stats? Welcome to Lubbock: third place in danger, first place in excuses.
